This is a developing story.

Update: From CNN

Paris (CNN)[Breaking news update, published at 12:37 p.m. ET]

A number of arrests have been made in Belgium during police raids in connection to Friday’s attacks in France, a Belgian justice ministry spokeswoman told CNN Saturday.

The raids were conducted in Molenbeek, on the outskirts of Brussels, justice ministry spokeswoman Sieghild Lacoere said.

Lacoere also told CNN that a car rented in Brussels was found near one of the sites of the attacks in France and “that’s what triggered the raids.”

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the worst violence witnessed in France since World War II, a volley of nearly simultaneous terror attacks that the French President called “an act of war.”

Meanwhile, investigators’ response expanded beyond France as Belgian authorities conducted raids in a Brussels suburb, including one connected to the Paris attacks, a Western intelligence source told CNN on Saturday.

The raids took place in three homes in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, according to the source, who is in contact with French and Belgian intelligence services. One raid is connected to the Paris attacks, and the others to individuals known to Belgium intelligence, the source said. Some of the Paris attackers are also known to Belgium intelligence, the source added.

In the Paris attacks on Friday night, the assailants targeted six sites, the deadliest being a massacre at a concert hall where at least 80 people were killed.

In all, French authorities put the number of dead at 128, though the death toll is expected to fluctuate as the situation becomes clearer.

The threat of ISIS is well-known, with the jihadist group’s atrocities in Syria and Iraq being met with condemnation and airstrikes by a U.S.-led coalition that includes France.

Summary so far

As we try to make sense of exactly what is going on, The Telegraph’s David Chazan has this summary of what we know:

QuoteAt least 18 people were killed and “many wounded” in a series of attacks in Paris by gunmen armed with kalashnikovs and grenades on Friday evening, police said.

Grenades were reportedly thrown at a stadium in the north of the French capital where a football match between France and Germany was being held, witnesses said.

The first shooting to be reported took place at a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the city, an area with many crowded bars and restaurants, particularly busy on Friday evening.

A second shooting was reported minutes later near a nightclub in the area, Le Bataclan, where gunmen were said to be holding hostages. Later grenades were said to have been thrown at a stadium in the north of the city where a football match between France and Germany was being held.

Large numbers of police rushed to the scene of the first attack, a Cambodian restaurant in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital. They evacuated nearby bars and restaurants.

The motive of the shootings is unknown, but Parisians feared that terrorists had again attacked the French capital, where 17 people were killed in a series of attacks in January that began with the shootings of staff at the office of the Charlie Hebdo magazine. Sirens were heard throughout central Paris.

Helicopters were seen in the air near the stadium.

  1. Hate to say it but, this should not come as anything unexpected.
I am going to assume that the attackers are from a Moslem background. Anyone who accepts the hard reality of truth knows the attackers if indeed are verified to be Moslem are simply practicing what the Koran, various Islamic Teachings and doctrine command True Moslems to practice. That being the truth if indeed these terrorists are proven to be Moslem based will realize they are simply practicing the tenets of their religion. Thus they would feel justified in their actions.

Moslems who claim and/or deny the facts that are so clearly evident in the Koran and varied Islamic teachings are either ignorant of their faith, or lying in the hope they can somehow not be noticed. What is it going to take for the U.S to recognize this is a religious war? Personally, I am surprised we do not have similar acts in the U.S as a common event. But, sadly I can see stuff like this in the U.S in our very near future.

  2. You are an idiot. The christian Bible says to stone prostitutes and homosexuals. It says that you aren’t allowed to wear clothing woven of two types of material. So I guess that EVERYTHING, the bible says should be followed exactly, right, so that you can be a true Christian? Your argument it is a hate filled idiotic artac on a religion, when it is a sect that iz causing the trouble. I bet you think the Crusades were a quaint little story, and the Crusaders were Holy Men? They werent. They were religious terrorists. But that doesnt mean that an entire religion should be judged by what a few men did. Oh, and btw, here’s a rock, because I’m gay. You better start stoning me.

    1. HSHS Whatever your name is. Do you even know what you are writing about?

So many topics you brought up so going try to address some of them.

      1. Stoning Prostitutes: I have read the Bible so many times and have a degree from a Christian College. I can assure you their is not one passage in the Bible of ordering Christians to stone Prostitutes. In fact, quite the contrary. It is likely that Jesus likely had several former Prostitutes funding the early Christian Churches. On a personal note I like Prostitutes.
In my personal opinion being a Prostitute can be an honorable profession. Never once have I heard any Christian leader of any good reputation promote murder of Prostitutes and everyone I know would reject any such message.

      2. Crusades: I was not there. So I could not determine all what was practiced. I suppose atrocities were committed. None the less again, no where in the Bible could be found any clear doctrine promoting abuse of Non Christians. Just a summary point on that complaint of yours.

      3. Homosexuals: I will not keep the rock you gave me. Because I would not have the authority to throw it at you. Again, the Bible has no order for Christians to stone homosexuals. The Bible is clear though. Any kind of sexual activity outside of marriage and even just thinking about it is against God’s will. Homosexual or Heterosexual. However, I will agree the Bible does seem to indicate that Homosexual acts do warrant a differing response. I am unable to clearly know what that is though. To me the Bible does not speak well of any Preverted act. Good thing God is forgiving. Because I know if not, I would be in the same boat too.

I suggest maybe go to a Bible Study to know more on that issue.
