Navy gets hand painted helmets for upcoming game

The U.S Naval academy will be wearing helmets featuring 7 different ships according to position groups. This may just be the edge they need to beat Army for a 14th time in a row. From CBS Sports:

The 115th Army-Navy game will be played on Dec. 12 on CBS, and Navy is going all out with new helmets and uniforms for the game.

Navy is wearing seven different, hand-painted helmets of different naval ships for the game. Each position group is represented by a different ship and will wear helmets with that ship painted on them.

Here are all of the helmets and the description of why each ship represents that position group, from the Navy release.

Linebacker: Cruiser — Provides anti-air defense and packs the biggest punch of Naval surface ships representative of the linebackers on the Navy football team.

Lineman: Amphibious Assault Ships — Just as a lineman’s job is the create a hole for a running back or linebacker, these ships are utilized to establish the “beach head” that enables the invading force to gain access and ultimately accomplish their objective.

One thing is for sure this year, even if they don’t beat Army, they will look good on the field and could be nominated for an Oscar.
