BREAKING: Hostage Situation Reported In Central London
Reports of a hostage situation is unfolding in central London, Twitter images are showing heavy police presence outside of an Italian restaurant.
A hostage situation is unfolding at a restaurant in central London, according to various Twitter reports, as witnesses describe a heavy police presence that can be seen in their photos. The situation is ongoing at the Bella Italia restaurant, located right in the center of UK’s capital on Leicester Square. Photos from the scene show the restaurant cordoned off by security.
Police are responding to “a man with a knife who is holding a woman against her will in a restaurant in Irving Street,” a Met Police spokesman said.
One witness trapped in one of the restaurants near Leicester Square tweeted: “First night in London and were locked in a restaurant and not allowed to leave because a man has a woman held hostage with a knife, sound.”
The hostage situation at Leicester Square is believed to be domestic and not terror related, according Met police.
