Prof. Sees “Armed Men” On Campus, Calls 911 In Fear
In what has to be some of the most ridiculous news today, armed men on campus which was actually a ROTC unit, was doing some training when a professor decided to call the police because she feared for her life…yes, we know how that sounds.
An associate professor at the University of North Dakota called the police on two ROTC students carrying replica rifles on campus, saying the group’s practice drills are “highly inappropriate” and “irresponsible” in light of recent school shootings.
In a letter Sunday to the Grand Forks Herald, Heidi Czerwiec described the panic she felt when she looked up from her office computer to see “two figures in camo with guns” outside her window.
“My first thought is for my students’ and my safety: I grab my phone, crawl under my desk and call 911,” she wrote.
The threat, however, was two ROTC students carrying guns on their way to a routine training exercise, Campus Reform reported.
“I can barely talk — first, with fear, and then with rage when the dispatcher reports back that yes, in fact, I’ve probably just seen ROTC cadets, though they’re going to send an officer to check because no one has cleared it with them,” Ms. Czerwiec wrote.
She said a university officer called her back a few minutes later to inform her that ROTC would be doing the exercises for the next couple of weeks.
“So I reply that I guess I’ll be calling 911 for the next couple weeks—and I will. Every time,” Ms. Czerwiec wrote. “It’s not my job to decide whether people carrying guns at school are an actual threat. It’s my job to teach and to get home to my family.

Ignoring the obvious absurdity of this, there’s a lot of things wrong with calling the police EVERY time the ROTC is out training, a big one being that what happens if a real shooter comes on campus and the police don’t respond because they think it’s the ROTC cadets?
Let us know what you think about this in the comment section or on social media.

Oh.
My.
Fucking.
God.
If I was a Dean at that school I would fire the professor for being an idiot.
I mean sure.
It’s a well known fact in the military that ROTC cadets are the most tactically sound and physically fit individuals in the operational force. They have been known to outperform all special operations groups.
You can trust me, I’m an ROTC cadet.
Which is why the “guns” ROTC has are made of rubber and plastic. The article even says (once) that they’re replicas.
She’s not a coward, she’s just being prudent. Those evil cadets just blatantly flaunt their highly developed killing skills. It’s obvious to everyone who has witnessed an ROTC unit that they are the closest thing this world has to an unstoppable killing machine. And replica rifles! Just ask any politician. Replica rifles are worse than ghost guns and assault weapons. Capable of killing in numbers only comparable to wmd’s. She is saving lives when she calls the authorities………….because she’s obviously so stupid she’s lowering the IQ of her students and calling interrupts her from filling their heads with nonsense.
Bwa ha ha ha….I hope you’re being sarcastic. ROTC clowns come on our field ops once in a while and all you do is complain about the lack of bathrooms and clean our rifles when we’re done with them.
As a UND student I think it’s great that she called the police when she perceived a threat. ROTC did not clear the training exersize, nor let the dispatcher know. Furthermore, I would rather have a teacher or administrator that called the police every time he/she saw a gun on campus rather than having one get through and shoot up a classroom.
There is NOTHING wrong with calling the police everytime an unknown person is carrying a gun on campus. It’s absurd that ROTC didn’t let anyone else know.
Abuse of 911 is also a crime and she admitted that is what she planned to do.
Reminds me of the quote, “You can’t fix stupid.”
Getting mad about someone who is concerned is the wrong response. I would challenge everyone to educate. She is right when she says it’s not her job to decide who is a threat, what happens when a cadet puts on his uniform and starts really shooting? Education and communication is all we can do, not humiliation and embarrassment of a civilian who doesn’t have the same knowledge or skill sets we have.
Well, she does have a point…it’s not up to her to make the decision if it’s an exercise or a valid threat…and she probably couldn’t tell a real weapon from a replica if her life depended on it, which is kind of her point…ROTC is wonderful program, but maybe some common sense needs to be interjected so cadets aren’t walking around campus with what some may think are the real thing…just sayin
The police should respond every time as if there was going to be an active shooter present on arrival . Then after all is cleare the professor should revive a bill for the response as it was a invalid call to a emergency agency . Fire departments do the same thing for false fire alarms .
I hope the next 911 operator reminds this lady that it is a crime to abuse 911 and the next time see her new bracelets
It is professionally irresponsible to ignore and disregard legal authority. If the ROTC is conducting authorized training, then disrupting that training is suppression of education which is not school policy. She should be replaced with someone who can live within the school’s syllabus.
Another educated idiot with an anti gun leftist agenda. Professor you should be fired.
Please, the only thing worse than a boot 2nd Lt. is a boot ROTC candidate. But thank you for your pre-service, you are almost there. GL.
This is one of countries professors in higher education? What an idiot!
The absurdity of this is so dumbfounding it almost defies reason. To be someone supposedly that highly educated and yet stupid defies logic.
Id start charging her for calling, and I don’t mean for fines, I mean with a crime. It is illegal to do this.
Derp. Derp. Deeeeeeerp.
She is an employee of a State University. Guess what, it IS her job to assess situations with students and then decide whether or not to call campus security or the police. It would have been stated as much when she signed her paperwork in accepting the position. She would have also had to acknowledge that the University had ROTC, and understand that those students would perform drills as part of their routines. If she did not understand the legalese of the hiring documentation, she should have taken it to a lawyer or legal friend to explain it to her before signing it.
According to the law, she is intentionally being a nuisance and has already given notice she intends to continue to be a nuisance – aka, premeditated with threats. Has anyone bothered to explain to her that repeatedly & knowingly reporting false terrorist incidents is a crime punishable by imprisonment?
“In particular, the crime of filing a false report of terrorism is probably the most serious type of false report, since it deals with national security. Filing a false report of terrorism can result in a minimum prison sentence of 7 years, up to 20 years maximum even for first-time offenders. Also, a false report of terrorism may be prosecuted as a violent felony, even if the offender did not actually commit any violent acts.”

Just have to say, I used to be in ROTC at UND and all the “guns” we use for these training exercises are fake and everyone (students, staff, faculty, etc) receives regular emails warning that ROTC students will be doing exercises on the quad on X days at X time. Ridiculous.
Maybe she needs to transfer to a more Liberal Arts college that does not have ROTC. If we shut down all of the colleges in this country that have ROTC, how are all of these other fine universities dealing with “armed” students walking around campus with their pseudo rifles? Ma’am, please don’t move to Texas. Starting next year on all public university it will be legal for licensed students to carry in your classroom. Junior colleges to follow suit in 2017. Good luck trying to shut down our 2nd amendment right.
This “lady” needs a life.
