Boy Scout Runs Into Gunfire To Save Man’s Life

Nicolas Latiolais ran into gunfire thinking he was helping a man who was just in a car accident – that’s when police told him there was an active shooter.
After coming across a man who was bleeding on the ground holding his stomach, Nicolas thought he was helping a man who was just in a car accident. Little did he know, he was running into gunfire from an active shooter situation.
“I thought it was just a car accident,” Latiolais told The Daily Beast. “There were three other people on the scene. They were just looking down on the man while he was screaming, ‘help me, help me’ and grabbing his leg.”
Unbeknownst to Latiolais, he’d stumbled upon a mass shooting in his quiet Houston neighborhood. A gunman opened fire at the Memorial Drive Tire & Auto a little after 10 a.m. Eugene Linscomb, 56, was shot and killed, and six others were injured. The shooter even fired five shots into a police helicopter before being taken down.

Without a second thought, Nicolas asked the man to remove his suit vest and started working on the wounds while asking bystanders to call 911.
During an interview afterwards Latiolais said that his future does not lie in emergency medicine but rather engineering. Saying he was glad to help but does not think of himself as a hero nor does he think his actions were in anyway extraordinary.
“In Boy Scouts they always talk about helping others and serving the community just because that’s what you’re supposed to do as a citizen,” he said. “I just knew that I could help him so I did.”
He may not believe he is a hero, but he is to a lot of people and modesty is a trait of heroism. Well done Nicolas, we raise our glasses to you!

As an engineer, Eagle Scout, and Firefighter; in so incredibly proud of this young man. Well done Nicolas. Much respect and brotherly love.
And so many people talk shit on Boy Scouts.
