This year’s election season has hit levels of tension and violence like few in history. That tense atmosphere hit a climax at a GOP office in Hillsborough, North Carolina when it was firebombed and vandalized.
Thankfully, the response has indicated that cooler heads prevail even among the most violent of circumstances.
David Weinberger of Brookline, Massachusetts heard the news and started a Go Fund Me campaign to help cover the damages and rebuild the facility. David is a registered democrat.
Within just 40 minutes of beginning their campaign, they had raised the money they wanted, plus an additional three thousand dollars. They they halted the campaign, as they deemed the cost for rebuilding the facility was covered.
In the campaign description, Weinberger wrote:
As Democrats, we are starting this campaign to enable the Orange County, North Carolina Republican office to re-open as soon as possible. Until an investigation is undertaken, we cannot know who did this or why. No matter the result, this is not how Americans resolve their differences. We talk, we argue, sometimes we march, and most of all we vote. We do not resort to violence by individuals or by mobs. So, let’s all pitch in, no matter what your party affiliation, and get that office open again quickly.
It’s honestly a breath of fresh air to see a compassionate response in the wake of an election season that has shown very little of that sentiment.
Both presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton reached out via Twitter to comment on the firebombing incident. As usual, their approaches to the situation were markedly different, and true to each of their campaigns.
Animals representing Hillary Clinton and Dems in North Carolina just firebombed our office in Orange County because we are winning @NCGOP

The attack on the Orange County HQ @NCGOP office is horrific and unacceptable. Very grateful that everyone is safe.

Investigations are still pending regarding who committed the act of violence and why.
