During the OSU lockdown yesterday, one call came into a news station with some reassuring information.

Molly Clarke, a student at the college in a locked-down classroom, told reporters at CNN that despite the terrifying situation, she felt safe because of the military members guarding the room.

“We have quite a few military men in our class, who are actually all standing by the doors, keeping us safe,” she said. “I’m feeling pretty good about that.”

It is possible that these men were ROTC candidates.

The horrific attack began yesterday morning when an 18-year-old Somali man, later identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan, drove over the sidewalk curb, striking a group of people. He then exited the vehicle with a butcher knife in hand and began stabbing and slashing several people. Nine victims in total were taken to the hospital; none with life-threatening injuries.

The motive behind the attack still remains unclear.

Officer that Took Down Attacker Praised

Alan Horujko, an OSU police officer, responded within minutes to the scene and shot the assailant, killing him. Horujko has been lauded as a hero whose quick response minimized injuries and saved lives.

Mayor Andrew Ginther lauded Horujko for his actions yesterday, saying, “There has never been a more dangerous or complicated and challenging time to be a police officer, and we had a dynamic well-trained professional today save the lives of many of our residents and students.”

Governor John Kasich also praised the fast response from law enforcement, calling it, “an unbelievable, amazing and outstanding and heroic performance on the part of our first responders.”
