Violent But True Bed Time Stories: Season 2 Episode 1 Audie Murphy
Audie Murphy is from Texas, so you know he’s going to be a badass. Murphy fought all over the place during World War 2 and made kicking ass a daily routine. Many Germans fell to the small Texan native who throat punched any and all comers.
Once upon a time in Normandy, Audie and his friend heard a German call down from atop a hill that he wanted to surrender. The friend stood up and was immediately shot. That was totally uncool thought Audie and he only really wasn’t a fan of those uncool people. Since these guys were definitely not cool, Audie charged up the hill firing and throwing grenades into machine gun nests. Texans are usually quite hospitable, just not when you shoot their friends. Audie killed all ten Germans hiding behind that hill. To quote Audie “I got the DSC. All he got was dead.”
That wasn’t the end of the wild ride Audie called WW2. A short time later in a town called Holtzwihr, in France, Audie Murphy was on the receiving end of a German assault. Well, that’s what the Germans thought at least. They didn’t know who (not what) was about to happen to them. Audie only had 19 of his original 128 men with him, he told them to fall back, he would stay. Audie Murphy picked off soldiers one at a time until he ran out of ammo. Then he leaped up to the gun that’s made many an appearance, the M-2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun and laid waste. Audie then used the radio in the tank he was firing from and called in an air strike right on top of him. He then grabbed his men and launched a counter-attack on the Germans.
Upon that success, Audie was awarded the Medal of Honor. Audie Murphy was awarded every medal for valor that could be awarded in the U.S. military as well as medals from Belgium and France.
