How To Avoid Being Stolen Valor In the News
Categories: Military, News
I’ve got a very low opinion of Stolen Valor folks. So low in fact that I don’t even bother correcting or approaching them because, to me, that amount of energy directed at them is more than they deserve. They don’t rate my attention. They are less than human. Many of us have friends walking around without getting the support they need, only to have these slapdicks Now some folks go out of their way to call them out and good on them. It’s just not my style. I hate those guys so much, I wish they didn’t exist.
I’m not talking about sea stories where we all embellish amongst friends. Military folks from the beginning of time have spun yarn and told tales that everyone knew was a little bit bullshit with a lot of facts. That’s done among fellow warriors. Not to the press. They take shit and run with it thinking it’s the whole truth. We all know it’s not. So how do you avoid being a Stolen Valor shitbag in the news?
- Don’t F***ing lie. Pretty self-explanatory here. If you talk to a member of the press, tell the unembellished truth. Your service, whatever it was, is honorable( at least we hope so, dickbag). Act like it.
- Use specific dates and times. Don’t be vague. Don’t allow there to be any questions.
- Show pictures. While many things can be edited, many of those grainy shitty pictures we took while we were in remain unedited.
I’ll never understand why people lie with intent on this shit. I just don’t f***ing get it. We all know the truth comes out in the end and you’re going to be found out. Freedom of Information Act for the win right?
Maybe if what you’re doing is going to garner national attention and you’re going to be interviewed you should be honest because it’s not like people on either side will go and vet your information. That’d be ridiculous! (obvious sarcasm is obvious)
F***ing recon ranger Vietnam times or whatever bullshit that guy said. He went AWOL twice and got kicked out. Non-deploying lying ass, ass. (There are two asses there on purpose)

F***k all. They will never be true heroes to anyone or for anyone. F**k’em.
You daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn right!
And let us not forget the above pictured, Master Sergeant Soup Sandwich, may he rest in peace. (The picture of him was taken at his step-father’s basic training graduation at Fort Jackson).
Well said!! Stories are meant to be shared because many of us shared the same experiences in the same damn sand through the years and most of the time we share the stories NOT to embellish (we do sometimes among friends), NOT to make ourselves become “Billy Bad A**” but more so to find additional common ground amongst our brothers and sisters to get the experience off our chest so to speak. These clowns that walk around trying to get the free meal, free drink, store discount served for all the wrong reasons in my opinion. I am proud of my service in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. You will be hard pressed to find me seeking out a discount or even wanting to engage those in the civilian sector with “what happened” while serving my country proudly. I don’t need medals or discounts to validate what I did in my time, my wife and daughter do that for me daily.
I don’t waste my time calling others out anymore because I tried to find the compliment in it all because they want to be like “us”, but they still piss me off more than anything! To all my brothers and sisters stay strong, stay mentally healthy, you are all valued for what you did and do!
I spent twenty three years in the army. I personally find it hard to keep my mouth shut when I see one of the dickweeds! So I usually wander over and let the ole sarge out, and yank a fuckin knot in their ass! The best part of people like that dripped down their mothers leg, and I let them know it. Carry on in the highest tradition my brothers and sisters!
I hope somebody dressed this guy down! Ass, ass!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has the mindset that these waste of oxygen absorbing mother fuckers dont deserve the time of day from me.
Well said and keep on keeping on.
Semper Fi!
You are 100% correct. I spent 12 years in, never went to combat. I was Infantry the entire time. I went where I was told and did what I was asked. That’s what we agree to. Not glory, not medals, not to get rich. Just to serve honorably and do our part. If anybody expects more…they are an ass.
Awesome………… you said it all brother.
Is it stolen valor if I tell hot ditzy women that I was a delta ranger seal in the United space force?
Sean…you and I both know it is. Unless you’re just testing them to see if they buy it…
Nothing puts life in perspective than spending some time with a couple of MOH recipients. #1, not a hero, #2, I was just doing my job. They’d NEVER put that ribbon on just because. We all WISH our service was as honorable. I’ve only run into one of these double ass’s, and it was hard for me to let him just walk away. God Bless all who have served and may these douchebags meet the enemy in this life and the next.
I learned early on in A school about stolen valor. After Desert Storm my corporal transferred from cook to Avionics. We had a young Marine buy every ribbon available at the NAS Millington PX and he put them on a Service “Charlie” shirt. He was telling somebody about having his pic taken and the barracks nco overheard. He had him show the shirt and then they reported it to the SNCOIC and then the school. Poor bastard had a choice, either face all the Marines in school or all the NCO’s & SNCO’s that were instructors & students that rated all the ribbons. He had to apologize to each one individually. My corporal was livid because he had buddies that still hadn’t received their Purple Hearts yet. This was 1991-92. We all learned how important those ribbons & medals were first hand that day. I’ll never forget.
I am a non combat veteran.
I find stolen valor repugnant.
However to simply paint everyone who is. On the surface. Guilty of this. We should remember. A lot of people who are guilty of this may have a “mental defect ” of some type.
I worked in a group home with special needs young adults, my first job as a civilian, post service. There was a young man in the home with a full Navel uniform. He liked to dress up. He was very patriotic and loved the Navy. His brother was a CPO. Should he be sgamed?
Is he walking around trying to tell folks he did those things? Is he trying to get money from it? Or is he just playing dress up? C’mon man you know the answer to your own loaded question.
This is probably the best jacked-up Stolen Valor I’ve ever seen, he even mixed the branch of services. He’s definitely giving Audie Murphy a run for his money. He definitely spent some serious time on rack builder.com.
I think our righteous indignation should be aimed at a government that has repeatedly lied and cheated veterans out of the promises they were made…We have fellow veterans dying every single day, EVERY DAY…these kinds of shitsticks don’t deserve any energy from us…
His name was Nick Androsky. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon, PA H.S. in 1997. A few years later he joined the USAF only to get a court martial in 2004 for drug use resulting in an other than honorable discharge. He ended his life in 2014.
I knew him. He was always a goofball, a rebel, a flow against the grain. But he was always a nice person. I’d say the military probably wasn’t the best lifestyle for him, I’d say he probably had mental issues that were not addressed early on. I’d hope John Fannin (the writer) could realize that exploitation of the dead mentally disabled making mistakes isn’t cool, funny or worth getting baited clicks.
I ran into Nick’s Mom around 2007. She was working at the MWR at Camp Liberty, BIAP. She seemed hesitant to talk in detail about Nick, only to tell me he had moved to Kansas. I pray for the Androsky’s and hope the world can forgive and forget Nick’s infamous snafu.
Joshua, if you’re taking this to heart, remember this. The photo is merely an example of Stolen Valor. Calm your righteous indignation.
I wasn’t an airborne ranger sniper or a green beret. I was never shot at,but I did go through some hard times in the ARMY. I lost brothers in training accidents. I don’t have to be ashamed of anything i was. But these stolen valor fucks shake me to my very core.
