Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful mothers out there. We are so eternally grateful for you every day, not just on this upcoming holiday. When it comes to you all, there are so many adjectives that could be used to describe you, but not a single one is really all-encompassing. Think about that for a moment. Of the thousands of descriptors I could use to define what makes a mother great, there is not one single word that encapsulates everything a mother does. There are literally so many bases that they cover that it’s almost literally impossible to find a singular descriptor to adequately define them. I’ll try though, and I’m sure my mom will say it’s great because even if it isn’t, that’s what moms do.
I know for me, at least…mom is the one who always believes in you despite…like…all the overwhelming indicators she shouldn’t. Like my mom, she tells me that I’m a fine, upstanding, handsome young man. There are at least three things that are entirely not true in that sentence, but she believes it anyways. That’s the thing about moms. They have this unshakeable…belief in your capabilities, your character, intelligence, and your good looks despite all of the evidence to the contrary.
We need someone like that in our lives because…well everyone needs someone to believe in them at some point. Whether you’ve become aloof and independent or you talk to your mother on the daily…we all needed that intangible, yet ever-present support from our mothers.
So this Mother’s Day, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to all of you wonderful mothers. Thank you for believing that we’re all smart, capable, mature, reasonable, self-confident and handsome/beautiful adults, even when it is so glaringly obvious that we are none of those things.
When we fall, it is your embrace that picks us up. It is your belief that inspires us to try again. Thank you, it’s not nearly enough, but it is sincere. Oh and I figured out the one word that could truly and adequately encompass all that you do, it’s been right in front of my face the whole time…mother.
To my mother,
I think you’re pretty dope, and no that doesn’t mean something about drugs.
Know what we're sayin fam?
