Wal-Mart, Kroger and Guns
Categories: News
Oh boy oh boy. What a shitshow I’ve walked back into after a 3-week hiatus. Wal-Mart and Kroger have decided that they would prefer people not open carry their firearms in their stores. So you have two private companies, that have decided, they’re not fans of the open carry movement. Now I bet you think I’m gonna get all BroVetted out and get angry and go rant in my car. But I’m not. I’m going to try to approach this whole predicament with a sense of poise and rationality (if you were a young adult in the mid-2000s, you get that reference).
First off, both companies are private companies. They get to do what they please, within reason. So, if they don’t want dudes open carrying in their stores, it is well within their rights to do so.
Secondly, in the opinion of this writer, WHY IN GODS GREEN FOOKIN EARTH WOULD YOU DOLTS OPEN CARRY? I get it, in theory at least, you want to normalize gun ownership, not have people get alarmed when they see someone other than a police officer armed…truly, I get it. Tactically speaking…and don’t worry, I’m not touting myself as the next Voda (muffled laughter), or some dumb shit like that. I’m just saying, realistically, you can’t watch everyone, everywhere, every time. You could be making yourself an obvious target, which is something, I, due to my already clumsy nature, would not like to do.
Thirdly, I haven’t looked at the numbers, but, judging off of anecdotal perception, Wal Mart has been getting its ass handed to it regarding ammunition sales. Gun shows, local gun stores, and sporting goods stores, have been whippin’ that ass, so it’s not really surprising that Wal Mart would stop selling certain ammunition.
Are they perhaps taking advantage of the timing to garner some favorable points from the 24/7 hit and run media? Probably.
So on one hand stores are telling gun owners they don’t want to see the guns. It seems both places are still cool if you conceal carry, which is the preferred method anyway.
When there is a legitimate threat on our 2nd amendment, we go hard in the paint, but Wal-Mart and Kroger…this is either pandering or a distraction at best, because as we said, you can still conceal carry, and even if they said you couldn’t, I would until they got metal detectors and enforced that shit.
Let’s save our outrage energy for when people who can actually do some damage to the 2nd Amendment start acting dumb…*continue acting dumb.

Great story, I agree open carry is just asking for unwanted attention.
Ha. That’s funny I bet you said the same thing when they made bumpstocks illegal. “Wait for the bigger battle, ok guys? Let’s all hold hands and support each other”

Weird how you mistake private companies doing things versus the government doing things.
Not everyone is old enough to recieve a conceal carry permit, while I absolutely agree conceal carry is best not everyone has that option and their right to carry is no less important than mine.
Constitutional Carry for all!!!
Totally agree with Constitutional Carry for all. Don’t really see the point in our societal climate of open carrying to normalize guns. It’s actually counterproductive, but thats just an opinion.
I rarely purchased cheap ‘Walmart ‘ ammo anyway, and I sure as hell don’t buy groceries at that over priced Kroger. You are right about them not being a threat, in my opinion , to the 2nd Amendment
It’s classic misdirection and pandering to get us to go all outrage monster and forget about it.
I understand what you are saying and I am not organizing boycotts and protests against either store, but I think it’s asinine and I resent it. Anything that attempts to in any way control or ordain the way in which I exercise my 2nd Amendment Rights just rubs me the wrong way. They need to STFU and let me be an American anyway I want to be an American. Just my 2 cents.
I open carry because of an incident when I was 18. An openly carried firearm stopped a robbery at the store I was working in.
Open carry provides the same deterrent as armed security, only much cheaper.
Here’s a Good article with food for thought.

Good rant. So NOW can we leave those F**kers alone? for a time, anyway? I 100% agree 100% John. As for me, myself and I, I carried Concealed…And, I eat at Panera, occasionally go to Starbucks (only for my insufferable cohorts) But I have to admit! When I see a dude sporting a Yeet Cannon in an Uncle Mike’s ditty-bopping happily along, It makes me laugh, even if only for a time. Here in the Granite State, one can pretty much go just about anywhere open carrying without anybody raising a stink…When the Free State Movement folks arrived en masse, they were in your face challenging all harassment for open carry. They literally took one for the team. We agree, open carry has no tactical value, but it paid in spades for the social/cultural value. When a dude with a rifle strapped to his back gets kicked off airport property, NOT because of the rifle, but for passing out leaflets…we’ve arrived.
