Veterans are sending pizza to first responders who can’t go home

Categories: News, Stories

Many first responders are becoming ill with flu-like symptoms. This is additionally complex because it is can be hard to tell the difference between various illnesses. COVID-19, seasonal flu, and severe allergies occasionally share symptoms. Consequently, a growing number are not going home. This is out of the fear of getting their families sick. Some are even sleeping at the office or in their duty vehicles, and taking extra shifts.

Some Veterans, like retired Captain Scott Davidson, have decided to take action. Davidson has sent hundreds of pizzas to Police Service Area 7 of the NYPD. PSA 7 is located in the Bronx, a borough of New York City.

This is a great example of private citizens making efforts to keep local businesses afloat. Furthermore, giving first responders one less thing to worry about. As a result, if some are not feeling well, they can limit contact with their family and lessen the strain of those who commute daily.

Police Lieutenant Eric Dym, a former Marine, told us “This means a lot to us, we appreciate it very much.”

Other Veterans have found creative ways to help, such as donating supplies or food. This allows fire, EMS and police the ability to focus on helping those in need.

If you or anyone you know has done something similar, we want to highlight good acts in our community. Please leave a comment below or reach out to American Grit via Facebook, here.

Grunt Style is one of the best American companies ever. Not just because of their awesome shirts, but also because of their Kick-Ass employees finding and sharing great acts of kindness during this unprecedented time. MERICA!!

  7. We need more people like this in the world. I do however know someone who is also trying to so his part in helping the hospitals. Before seeing it on TV, he decided to make mask with his 3D printer and donated them to the hospitals. Sometime it’s the small things that can make a big difference.
