Pandemic scarcity and surplus: 4 things to know

While some items have been scarce, others have actually been in a surplus.  There are also items like masks and hand sanitizer which have been priced gouged. (See the article of the a**hole of the week we wrote.) However, here are some other things to be aware of that may not be quite as obvious.

Scarce: Exercise equipment

The government restrictions have closed most gyms. As a result, the availability of free weights, machines, and fitness equipment has significantly decreased. The most common places to buy dumbbells have been depleted. This includes massive backorders for online stores. The high demand has resulted in the price of weights skyrocketing. Second hand marketplace apps are seeing jaw dropping price tags for the coveted iron. Even online stores have 40-50% mark ups. This has created a ripple effect of demand, with a severely hindered supply.

Scarce: Shelter pets

All across the country, animal shelters have been posting pictures of empty cages. Social media accounts have described this as the best thing to happen to homeless pets. Because of this, if you were hoping to find a four-legged companion, the pickings will be slim. Many rushed to adopt a furry friend before self imposed isolation. Regardless of the circumstances, we can all be happy about this.

Surplus: Singles near you

Despite the pandemic, dating apps continue to grow. Loneliness and isolation have inspired many to download apps that encourage you to “swipe right” on interesting people. According to market intelligence company Sensor Tower, “The highest grossing non-game app worldwide for March 2020 was Tinder with more than $76.8M in user spending.” This means the Tinder app essentially beat out the Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube app. Many users report they meet their matches on gaming platforms for virtual dates. If you meet someone from a dating site, always be careful. Insist they get tested, and not just for COVID-19. Furthermore, check out this article we wrote about cat fishing.

Surplus: Oil

Oil prices have plummeted across the world, sending gas prices down as well. People are not driving as much so the industry is desperately trying to keep a positive cashflow. As a result, clean energy advocates are looking at this as the moment to strike. Similarly, many are insisting we should not bail out the oil industry. They are scrambling to justify their position, launching social media, and lobbying campaigns. Contrarily, fossil fuel advocates point out the number of jobs they provide. They claim states with high crude outputs and refineries will be important to the upcoming election. With the country’s leadership vying for re-election, this is very important to watch.

Most people who react to what’s going on in the world today are just showing that before the United States was locked down they just thought about there daily routine and didn’t think about the people or all living things around them. Now that the United States is locked down everything is in a different view to them. Life is what you make it on a daily basis Respect Honor Freedom 💯 are what keeps the people safe and free. Myself my husband and all our kids ALWAYS treated the world we’re in as the beauty it is. Panic and disarray was ever in our house or work. Respect and Honor are earned one with out the other just leaves you in the panic the mayhem were seen today abiding by what the Federal government passed down state to state governors is what I’m talking about family friends and every other person out there in the world I have just as much right as anyone else including all living things to get through the epidemic we’re going through and quit whining like a whiny ass b**** just goes to show they have no self respect for themselves or their country and every single person that’s put their life in danger to keep the freedom of the American people life’s too Short look at what happened in the 80s when the bubonic plague one around or way back in the day when scarlet fever was going around seriously we as a people need stand as one whole not individual there is never an i in we re stands for entirety the whole United States the whole earth if you may like the bubonic plague this coronavirus she’ll soon bnet always be around yes but no and the people can get back to you their daily nonchalant not a care in the world life and forget about while they have their freedom seems to mean all the people complaining about the lockdown just don’t respect themselves and only care about themselves instead of the whole nation as a unit or as one I’m in the healthcare profession I deal with everything that goes on no matter what it is whether it’s a Corona virus that’s going around now and or any other thing that the world is in or has or has gone through and our service people have seen way more than any anyone could ever imagine especially when there were Vietnam desert Storm isis any world war II Pearl harbor any significant battle that was fought for the United States for us to remain free is who who makes America who we are strong and free how many other countries continents or areas can say that not many United States always others not nope anyhow respect and honor is earned never given that’s where a lot of people don’t get they think they’re owed respect and honor no you earn it you don’t just it’s just not a given anyhow thanks for your time and definitely will be commenting again. I’m hoping we all learn from this. Less import, more exporting, shop small, shop American made, keep our money here in the states. Build America up!

Love your products!!! My husband is retired ARMY, and they speak right to his heart. His favorite is his Throat Punch shirt. Most civilians think it’s “cute” but he probably does want to throat punch them.
