What we’re about to tell you is going to serve two purposes. The first purpose that you’ll laugh your ass off whilst saying “I knew it all along,” and the second that you’ll pay a little closer attention to who you vote for. Erin Merton at STAT News recently did a story, of which you can read in full here, detailing the “adventures” of the pharmacist that serves Congress.Mike Kim, who was extremely careful to not violate any patient privacy laws, stated that “At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” listing treatments for Alzheimer’s and diabetes as two prevalent prescriptions. No specific person was named as having any disease that would potentially affect that country’s well-being or national security. The fact that prescriptions for things such as Alzheimer’s were even mentioned ought to give us slight pause. All one needs to do is turn on CSPAN to watch the drama of Congress unfold and hear some of the ridiculous things politicians say. Now it all kind of makes sense. The facts are the facts and our current Congress is one of the oldest, if not the oldest in history. With the average age of our senators is over 65 and our representatives aren’t far behind at 57. There is nothing wrong with growing older, we all hope to do so in graceful fashion. However, it is known that at certain ages, health concerns can be a very real and legitimate concern.

Alzheimer's

When we engage in the political hero worship that is common to our age, it’s easy to miss the signs that maybe our elected representatives may not have our best interest at heart. Only in this case it may not actually be there fault. The point we’re driving at here is that we ought to pay attention to the pros and cons of our elected officials. That’s how America is supposed to work. So many times in elections you hear folks saying they’re going to vote for the “lesser of two evils”, now correct us if we’re wrong, but aren’t you still voting for evil then? Being able to confidently hold your representatives accountable for their actions is what the phrase “a government by the people, for the people and of the people shall not perish from this Earth,” means. These elected officials are people too. They have health problems just like you and I. They make mistakes, just like you and I.For us to truly function as a constitutional republic we must pay more attention to what goes on in the halls of Congress. Whether it’s just checking to see if our representatives do what they say they are going to do, or ensuring accountability on their health as not to put ourselves at risk, it probably wouldn’t hurt to be a little bit more educated on who you’re putting in office.Read more news articles here.
