Forget those predictable "Beauty and the Beast" or "Romeo and Juliet" costumes. This Halloween, it's time to ditch the saccharine sweet and embrace the chaos (this works especially well if your partner is a chaos goblin already). We've compiled a few hilarious couples costume ideas that will have you and your partner winning a laugh, or at least a few awkward stares.

The "Netflix and Chill" Couch Potatoes
This costume is the perfect blend of relatable and ridiculous. One partner dresses as a comfy couch (complete with cushions and a remote control), while the other becomes the "Netflix" logo. You can even add some popcorn and a cozy blanket for extra authenticity.  Just try not to fall asleep mid-party, or let certain people near that alluring piece of furniture…

Extra Credit - Attach a screen to the "couch" playing your favorite movie to not watch on repeat.

The "Bob Ross and Happy Little Tree"
Embrace the joy of painting (and happy little accidents) with this whimsical costume. One partner dresses as the iconic Bob Ross, complete with a curly wig and a paint palette, while the other becomes a "happy little tree."  Just be prepared for everyone to ask you to paint them a masterpiece. Even better, have the more feminine partner be Bob.

Extra Credit - If you have babies, make them your ‘happy accidents’.

The Elderly Altered Couple
This simple yet effective costume is perfect for couples who like to keep things classic. While it’s been done before, there are always new twists. Make the makeup and grey hair as convincing as possible, then pretend to not know each other before bickering like the old men from the Muppet Show. You can easily DIY this costume with some of your grandparent’s actual clothes and movement aids.

Extra Credit - A little ‘old people gunk' on the corners of your mouth, the scent of tiger balm, and telling rambling stories that go nowhere will really sell the bit.

The key to a successful couple's costume is to choose something that reflects your personalities and sense of humor.  Don't be afraid to get creative and have fun with it!  After all, Halloween is the perfect time to let your freak flag fly (and maybe embarrass your significant other just a little bit, but not enough to get them upset so they take their ‘candy’ off the table).
