Ibuprofen, sometimes referred to by the brand name Motrin or "Grunt Candy," is a beloved cure-all used by military medicine. Medics and military doctors are famous for prescribing ibuprofen for everything from a sprained ankle to more serious ailments. Similarly, some "Docs" have posted on their social media for troops to take Motrin and drink water if they have coronavirus concerns.

However, France's Health Minister Olivier Veran recently tweeted "taking anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen) could be an aggravating factor of the infection (COVID-19)."

Veran went on to say "We repeat that the treatment of a fever or of pain linked to COVID-19 or to any other respiratory viral disease should be paracetamol (known in the US as acetaminophen)"

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated they are aware of the tweet. Howbeit, they said they were unaware of any studies or literature that supports such a claim. Furthermore, other medical organizations have voiced concerns over a lack of evidence.

The conflicting reports have left many confused. As a result, we asked our old Corpsman for some tried and true medical advice. He offered some interesting alternatives to taking Motrin.

  • Wearing a PT belt.
  • Taking a knee and punching yourself in the face.
  • Completing your online training.

We are not sure as to the effectiveness of these suggestions, but are excited to give them a try.Notably, ibuprofen is the most prescribed drug by military medicine. If Motrin does prove to be harmful for coronavirus, it will be important for troops to know. Many soldiers take the pain killer daily. Additionally, it is common for Joes to have large bottles of ibuprofen at the ready.Certainly, we will continue to watch this story as it develops. Until then, change your socks and drink water.Have any other suggestions? Drop a comment below! Also, be sure to check out our daily lives, here, at 11am CST and 3pm CST!
